I got my old Apple IIGS online using an Uthernet II ethernet card. So far I have been able to copy files over my LAN from my Mac to the IIGS using FTP. Cool. But I really want to get it online. Most modern websites are going to be too complex (not to mention encrypted) for the IIGS but email, especially personal, plaintext messages to and from friends, should be fine. Has anyone been able to get their Apple II to interact with Gmail? I came across this post about setting up a Raspberry Pi as an email gateway to handle the encrypted interactions with Gmail servers while talking to the Apple II (or any local computer really) over unencrypted channels. Despite the halfway decent tutorial, there seem to be a few key details missing and I wasn't able to get this solution working.
Looking for your ideas on making something like this work.
